The Master once expressed His hopes "that all the beloved of God, collectively, in the continent of America, men and women, will strive night and day until the Mashriqu'l-Adhkár be erected in the utmost solidity and beauty." With the Temple restoration now a task at hand for American believers, ‘Abdu'l-Bahá's wish once again continues to inspire and gently guide its work.
Temple restoration work accomplished this summer and fall included the following:
- Installation of new architectural concrete cornice in 2 of the 9 sides of the Temple, which had serious deterioration caused by a weak roof edge detail from the original 1937 construction.
- Replacement of 9 architectural concrete pylon capstones.
- Cleaning and sealing of the exterior ornamental concrete was completed. Forensic engineers recommended that the concrete dome be cleaned and sealed to safeguard its future.
- Installation of new roofing on the first and second stories of the Temple was completed.
- The cornerstone which 'Abdu'l-Bahá placed into the Temple foundation with His own hands was cleaned by a conservator.
- Installation of architectural concrete wall cladding onto the terrace walls in 3 of the 9 Temple gardens. The wall cladding covers the structural wall of the terrace with a beautiful exposed aggregate quartz concrete that includes delicate ornamentation inspired by a geometric motif found on the Temple and a flower carved on the Shrine of The Báb.
- Installation of pavers on the landings outside of 3 of the 9 auditorium doors.
- Six of the auditorium doorways were rebuilt and their thresholds were made watertight.
The dedication and striving of the American Bahá'í community to protect and improve the beloved Mashriqu'l-Adhkár is once again proof that no matter the condition outside, nor the limitation of our means, the work of the Cause shall never cease, and the wish of the Master will forever continue to be fulfilled.
