"Know, O thou possessors of insight, that true spirituality is
like unto a lake of clear water which reflects the divine.”
(‘Abdu'l-Bahá, ‘Abdu'l-Bahá in London, p. 107)
“That is to say whatever exists in heaven is reflected in this phenomenal world.” (‘Abdu'l-Bahá, ‘Abdu'l-Bahá in London, p. 46)
“Reflection” is a word that holds great meaning to Bahá’ís, representing the endless love showered on us from God that we must try to exhibit outwardly and absorb inwardly. We can reflect the Sun of Truth by polishing our mirrors, we may reflect on the Writings to grow spiritually, and we know that the Manifestations of God have radiated the most intense reflections of Light on Earth. Contemplating the qualities of reflection can help us to increase our capacity to know and love God and one another.
Thanks to the help of the American community and their support of the Kingdom Project, the Mother Temple of the West is now reflecting heaven ever brighter in “this phenomenal world.”
The Kingdom Project Office is pleased to announce that the much-anticipated long reflecting pool, gracing the long approach to House of Worship, was opened to the public for the Birth of the Báb on October 20, 2005.
The design for a long reflecting pool was specifically requested by the beloved Guardian in 1940 during the original construction of the Temple grounds – plans that were not realized – until now.
The Guardian so loved the sight of the Temple reflected in water that he distributed a picture of the Temple reflected in a stream to all of his friends as gifts. The Guardian is surely smiling down on us today.
The pool brings to mind Eastern landscape and atmosphere, nestled between Western manicured gardens – reminding us of the all-encompassing tenets of our Faith and the welcoming nature of the Mother Temple – merging the Occident and Orient into one beautiful sacred space. And giving us much to reflect upon!
